ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VI, Guwahati has organized State Level Workshop on Post Flood Management in Agri-allied sector in Assam in collaboration with Extension Education Institute (EEI), Khanapara and College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara on 9th September, 2024 with the aim of prioritizing research and policy issues and give recommendation on tackling the post flood situation.

The workshop was divided into four sub themes such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock and Fishery sectors. During the workshop, officials of KVKs and Line Departments placed issues or problems faced by farmers in various sectors due to flood. It was followed by a thorough discussion on extent of flood damage in terms of area affected by flood, loss in productivity, monetary loss, susceptibility of crops and livestock to pest and diseases after recession of flood, its effect on post-harvest activities, marketing etc. It was followed by discussion on strategies to overcome the effects of flood in various sectors.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Agriculture, Govt. of Assam; Directors from the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat; Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara; Director, Extension Education Institute (EEI), Khanapara; Experts from the nearby ICAR institutes; Officials from the Line Departments, Govt. of Assam; Senior Scientist & Heads of KVKs of Assam; Scientist of ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati etc.
